Robert Lee Potts May 10, 1939 - April 28, 2025
Robert “Bob” Lee Potts, age 85, passed away peacefully on April 28,
2025, in Virginia Beach. He was born on May 10, 1939, in Glasgow,
Montana, and grew up in Sidney, Montana where he was captain of the
football, basketball, and track teams. Bob embodied a life of
dedication, both in service and in spirit.
A graduate of the prestigious United States Military Academy at West
Point, he served his country with honor and distinction as an Army
Ranger. Rising to the rank of Captain, Bob’s commitment to duty was
unwavering, leaving a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of
serving alongside him.
Upon concluding his military career, Bob transitioned to the financial
world of New York City, working as a stockbroker. His professional
journey continued through various sales positions, eventually bringing
him to Virginia Beach, where he spent his later years. However, his
Montana roots never left him as he always considered himself a cowboy.
Beyond his career, Bob was an avid tennis player, passionately engaging
in the sport up to five times a week until health challenges limited his
ability to play. The tennis court was a place where his competitive
spirit and love for the game shone brightly. Bob was also an avid
reader. When he wasn’t playing tennis, he could probably be found
reading a book. His love of reading brought him solace when he could no
longer play tennis.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Violet Potts; his
brother, Rick Potts; and his grandson, Andrew Stone. He is survived by
his beloved daughter, Cheryl Travelstead, and her husband, Mark
Schubert; son, Robert B. Potts; son, Christopher Potts; daughter, Chyler
West; treasured grandchildren: Taylor Burak-Stone, Fletcher Travelstead,
and Tiernan Travelstead; brother, Brent Potts; former wife, Sally Meyer;
and many nieces, nephews, and extended relatives.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Jones
and Cabacoy Veteran’s Care Center for the wonderful care and compassion
they provided Bob during his time there.
Bob will be remembered for his resilience, fortitude, and the love he
shared with family and friends. His presence will be deeply missed, but
his memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved
him.
