Sergei Olive of Manassas passed away on July 5, 2014 at
Capital Caring Hospice in Arlington, VA. He was stricken with complications
from a bone marrow transplant.
Serge was born on January 23, 1938 to Vladimir Sergei Olive and Anna Kolomietz
Olive in Leesburg, VA. He grew up with his parents and two sisters Elena and
Carol in Middleburg, VA and Washington, DC. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson
High in Washington, DC. Sergi then graduated from West Point, USMA in 1961. He
was assigned to various military posts in his long time military career. These
included Viet Nam; Aschaffenburg, Germany; Heilbronn, Germany; Wurzburg,
Germany; Fort Dix, New Jersey; Fort Benning, Georgia; Fort Bragg, North
Carolina; and Ansbach, Germany. He was an Airborne Ranger with the Master
Parachute Badge, Combat Infantry Badge, Expert Infantry Badge, Vietnam Ranger
Badge, Legion of Merit, Air Medal, Vietnam Service Medal; National Defense
Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm,
Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Silver Star, and a Meritorious Service Medal (2nd
Oak Leaf Cluster).
After he retired from the Army, he worked for Treasure Chest Advertising
Company as a Human Resources Manager in Manassas, VA. He then worked for Home
Depot in the tool department and also taught classes for the Fairfax County
Continuing Adult Education Center.
Serge was an active participant in many organizations. He was a member of the
West Point Society, Wild Goose Chase, the ROMEOS, the Gourmet Club, and The
American Cancer Society Relay for Life in Manassas. He also assisted on many
events sponsored by the Woman’s Club of Manassas and The Manassas Garden Club.
His hobbies included playing tennis, golf, gardening, cooking, and
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother in law, Peter Wolkonsky.
Survivors include his wife, Diane; his son Michael and wife Mae, and children
Nikolai and Amelie; his daughter Christa Olive Palmieri and husband Peter, and
children William, Catherine, and Cooper; Sister Elena Wolkonsky; Sister Carol
O. Karpoff and husband Leo, and son Michael and his children Val and Katya;
Sister-in-law Eileen Thomason and husband Phillip, and sons Phillip and his
wife Megan, Benjamin and sons Benjamin and Shepherd; Brother-in-law Leonard P.
Perna and wife Peggy, and their children Christa McClain and husband Taylor,
children Mia and Katie and son Jordan Carter.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 13, 2014 from 2:00 pm - 4:00
pm in the Baker-Post Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 10001 Nokesville Rd.
Manassas, VA 20110. A Memorial Service will take place at 4:00 pm in the
Chapel with a reception to follow.
Interment will take place In Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
