It is with great regret and sorrow that I must notify you I have learned of
the death of our classmate, Bob Christina, on October 10, 2023, in Rochester
Hills, MI.
Well done, Bob. Be thou at peace.

It is with deep sadness that I inform you of the death of Dr. Robert (Bob) J.
Christina, who passed away on October 10, 2023.
Professor Christina joined Oakland University in the Department of Reading and
Language Arts on August 15, 1970, where he served until his retirement on August
15, 1998. Dr. Christina collaborated with the Early Childhood Program, developed
the first computer program in education at OU and served as Department Chair
working with faculty to design the on-campus reading clinic.
Dr. Christina also served on numerous university, school and department
committees during his tenure. He taught undergraduate, masters and PhD courses
while also providing service to the Michigan Department of Education.
There will not be a service/memorial for Dr. Christina. Colleagues and friends
may leave fond memories and expressions of sympathy on the Pixley
Funeral Home website.
On behalf of the entire University community, we extend our heartfelt
condolences to the Christina family and friends during this very difficult time.

Bob Christina, age 85, passed away in Rochester
Hills, MI with his wife, Peggy, at his side. Born in West
Hazleton, Pennsylvania to Joseph and Margaret Christina he
was the oldest of 5 sons and played many sports. He served 3 years in
the U.S. Army before entering Bloomsburg State College where he met Peggy.
They graduated and married in 1963. They then moved to Upstate New York.
He entered graduate school at Syracuse University and graduated with his
PhD in 1970. Their children Joseph and Judy were born in Syracuse.
Bob began his teaching career at Oakland University Rochester,
Michigan in the department of Reading and Language Arts and retired in 1998. He enjoyed instructing teachers to teach reading and
developed the first computer program in education at Oakland University. He
also enjoyed vegetable gardening, fishing, hunting, sports, cooking for
guests, drinking wine, traveling, family and friends, and he loved to read.
After Joseph and Judy graduated from Michigan State University in the
1990s, Bob and Peg started traveling in the US and abroad for many years.
Bob was diagnosed with dementia in 2018. He is survived by Peggy,
brothers Edward (Virginia), Michael (Barbara), Eugene (Lori), and Ronald,
son Joseph (Sian) and daughter Judy (Julian), grandchildren Alexia, Ellie,
Maddy, Rees, and Leo. At Bob's request there will be no service.
